ABC’s ‘V’ Slams Obama and Pelosi

An amazing thing happened at a recent debut of a much-touted ABC pilot.abcvlogo.jpg

A not-so-subtle message was sent to a large viewing audience.

The targets of the TV communiqué were Democrats in power. If you can believe it, the Obama administration, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and the Democrats in Congress were smacked by Hollywood on a major television broadcast.

Rather than use the tired old clichés of villainous conservatives, Christians, gun owners or Republicans, the new show “V” went after the current D.C. free-enterprise-destroying agenda, and did so with an interplanetary vengeance.

Sci-fi tales are known as the repository for parables that describe current circumstances in society. Orwell, Huxley, and H.G. Wells wrote social commentary in the form of narrative fantasy. “1984″ was a warning about totalitarianism, “Brave New World” showed the consequences of science without moral limitations, and “War of the Worlds” displayed the danger of complacency.

Dems Protest over Glenn Beck Tribute

Bud Norris didn’t realize what a firestorm he had created.

The Mount Vernon, WA mayor decreed that September 26 would be known as Glenn Beck Day. He also scheduled a ceremony to give Beck a key to the city that the Fox cable host was born in.

“I don’t know if I expected the magnitude of resistance,” Norris told CNN. But he also indicated that he has received “a tremendous amount of positive response.”

Norris has known Beck since Beck’s parents owned a bakery in Mount Vernon. The city official feels as though Beck’s success story should inspire all Mount Vernon residents regardless of their politics.

Evidently, some Dems disagree. Democrat groups have led protests in the city over the Beck salute.

Michael Moore Calls Capitalism ‘Evil’

small_moorefilm(1).jpgMichael Moore solidified his position as one of the biggest phonies of our times while at a recent Venice Film Festival outing.

He debuted his latest sham documentary called “Capitalism: A Love Story.”

Thanks to the free enterprise system, Moore has become super wealthy, which makes the two-hour flick a case study in hypocrisy.

“Capitalism is an evil,” Moore proclaims, “and you cannot regulate evil.”

According to Moore, regulating capitalism doesn’t work, so his prescription is, “You have to eliminate it and replace it with something that is good for all people and that something is democracy.”

Guess it all depends on what the meaning of “democracy” is.

Fidel, Hugo, Van, Nancy, and Harry might have a similar definition. Someday someone might ask the president what his is.

In any event, the flimflam filmmaker even stoops so low as to bring in some liberation theology clergy to endorse the idea that capitalism is actually anti-Christian…

Wanda Sykes Us Out

Who chose Wanda Sykes to be the featured comic at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner?

Maybe it was the same person who set up the Scare Force One photo op.

The dinner traditionally dishes out humor at the president’s expense.

But Sykes used her moment in the D.C. spotlight to attack conservatives.

She began her routine with a few jokes about President Obama that were actually not-so-veiled compliments.

Not known for her subtlety, she went on to blast talk radio biggies Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and toss cow pies at former Vice President Dick Cheney.

Her jabs at Rush were the harshest and most disingenuous and had no place at the time-honored event.

Sykes falsely “joked” that Limbaugh said he hopes America fails, and she accused him of treason.

She recklessly compared Rush’s comments to those of Osama bin Laden and used the #1 talk radio host’s name and “highjacker” in the same lame joke.

She went on to express, as pathetic liberals are prone to do, her desire that he experience life threatening health problems.

For Hannity, she hypocritically encouraged the use on him of what the Left has deemed “torture” and included a snide remark for bad measure.

When it came to Cheney, Sykes hid behind her lazy wisecracks but inadvertently revealed how unoriginal she really is.

Still, the Hollywood, D.C. crowd (which included Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore, Natalie Portman, Jonathan Rhys Myers, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes as well as Brian Williams, Helen Thomas, Barbara Walters, Wolf Blitzer and other mainstream media big shots) chortled approvingly.

And according to Variety, White House senior adviser David Axelrod called Sykes “very entertaining.”

Very insidious is more like it.

Barbara Walters to Eject Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Seat Miss California

Despite her public denials, Barbara Walters reigns supreme on ABC’s “The View.”

The media Jill of all trades calls the shots when is comes to co-hosts.

Walters shoved Rosie O’Donnell off the show a while back, and she’s about to do the same to Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

The reason for Hasselbeck’s ejection? Walters has apparently had enough of her so-called “shrilly-silly views” and “looney-toon responses,” according to the National Enquirer.

Removal of the former “Survivor” star would leave an empty chair on the hosting panel, and it’s the only slot with a conservative vantage point.

Barbara is considering Carrie Prejean, the now famous Miss California, to take Elisabeth’s place.

Prejean has displayed grace under pressure in her unwavering expression about her beliefs on marriage.

Similar to the manner in which the media treated Governor Sarah Palin, attacks on the Miss USA runner-up have been unfair and unceasing.

Walters will likely get a lot of heat for even considering bringing on Prejean especially since the beauty contest winner is now a spokesperson for the National Organization for Marriage.

Here’s a thought: If she really wants to show independence, and maybe a smidgeon of balance, Walters ought to leave Hasselbeck on the panel and give Miss California Joy Behar’s spot.

Don’t Miss Gary Sinise on Fox!

Veteran critically acclaimed CSI actor Gary Sinise’s special will be on the Fox News Channel Saturday January 10 at 9 pm ET.

“With the help of the USO, my brother-in-law Jack, and my friend Jonathan Flora who used a handheld camera, you will see what happened on a seven day trip I took to Iraq last summer which will air this Saturday night on the FOX News Channel,” Sinuse said.

“It was my fourth trip there with the USO. My goal, as always, was to cover as many miles as possible and to take pictures, sign autographs and shake hands with as many troops as I could in the time I had. Stops included bases in Kuwait and in Iraq – Al Asad, Al Qaim, Ramadi , Habbaniyah, TQ airbase and Baghdad.”

“It was the first time I have let a camera follow me around on one of these trips. Over the last six years, I have traveled around the world and all over the United States to visit and perform for our troops with the USO. I have supported many grass roots efforts as well and visited our wounded in the hospitals several times. I could not be more honored to play a small part in helping our troops and their families. We can never do enough for our veterans who have sacrificed so much to keep this nation free.”

Barack Obama Raises the Dead

The remaining members of legendary jam band “The Grateful Dead” were not getting along very well.

Fans of the group, who are known as “Deadheads,” were concerned that they would never again be able to sit cross-legged on a concert floor as their favorite San Fran group let loose with one of their trademark hour-long tunes.

But now, no doubt to the Deadheads’ delight, Mickey Hart, Phil Lesh, Bob Weir and Bill Kreutzman, the original members of the Grateful Dead, have announced that they will do a tour in April 2009.

These days the group is simply known as “The Dead.” Interestingly, members haven’t toured together for four years.

Why the reconciliation? Barack Obama, of course.

The four rockers got together in October 2008 to perform at Penn State for an Obama fundraiser.

Three of the band members played an earlier Obama money generator in February 2008.

Hart told Rolling Stone that the Obama fest “broke the ice” and added, “We were able to let some of these skeletons in our closet just fall away.”

Elton John Slams Prop 8, Lauds Civil Unions

Elton John and David Furnish may have had a ceremony to solidify their commitment, but John recently let the world know, “We’re not married. Let’s get that right. We have a civil partnership.”

John distanced himself from the protests that are taking place in cities across the U.S. “What is wrong with Proposition 8 is that they went for marriage,” he said.

John and Furnish came to the U.S. for the annual benefit for the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

“I don’t want to be married. I’m very happy with a civil partnership. If gay people want to get married, or get together, they should have a civil partnership,” John advised.

“The word ‘marriage,’ I think, puts a lot of people off. You get the same equal rights that we do when we have a civil partnership. Heterosexual people get married. We can have civil partnerships,” John added.

The dinner-fundraiser was hosted by CNN’s Anderson Cooper, who hasn’t yet indicated whether he agrees with the legendary rocker or not.

Cindy Sheehan Endorsed by Penn, Sheen and Barr

Sean Penn, star of “Milk,” a biopic of the life and assassination of San Francisco supervisor and gay rights leader Harvey Milk, escorted congressional candidate Cindy Sheehan to the film’s San Francisco premiere.

Sheehan is running as an independent candidate against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for California’s 8th District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Penn hosted an October fundraiser for Sheehan at his San Francisco home, which raised more than $5,000.

Martin Sheen and Roseanne Barr have also endorsed Sheehan.

Sheen is best known for playing fictional Democratic President Josiah Bartlet in the NBC liberal fantasy TV series, “The West Wing.”

Comedian, blogger and sometimes radio host Barr is best known for her long-running ABC series, “Roseanne.”

Who could have imagined that Penn, Sheen and Barr would be fantasizing about the same thing as a lot of conservatives-getting rid of Madam Speaker.

Media Mixed on ‘W.’ Box-Office Expectations

Even with a big budget, name director and well-known cast, in its opening weekend Oliver Stone’s “W.” Bush bash only placed fourth at the box-office.

Giving Stone a bit of a dig, the Associated Press ribbed that “movie-goers elected a ‘W,’ but it was Mark Wahlberg, (star of “Max Payne.”) not George W. Bush.” The action movie “Max Payne” opened with $18 million to take the first place spot.

Stone’s flick took in $10.6 million from 2,030 cinemas, resulting in $5,197 a theater, a figure the A.P. called “unremarkable.” With a reported $25 million dollar production budget and another $25 million spent on promotion and advertising, “W.” still has a long way to go to be in the black.

In a previous review of the film, I explained that this was a movie made by Bush-haters for Bush-haters.

Since Stone’s last movie, “World Trade Center,” opened with $18.7 million and “W.” was released during a presidential election, box-office expectations were high.

Evidently, media reports were conflicted.

Variety claimed the $10.6 in revenue for Stone’s movie “performed on the upper end of expectations.”

The USA Today dubbed the same amount as having “met expectations.”

Entertainment Weekly semi-apologetically opined that the Stone flick “did well given all that it had going against it…”

The magazine claimed that the $10.6 million number was “not bad for a movie opening during tough economic times about a man whom many Americans blame for said financial strains.”
